Seva Soul: Meditation + Yoga Service Retreat

In Sanskrit, "Seva" means the art of selfless service. With so much happening in the world (and not always the good stuff), it's difficult to travel and not feel affected by it. We are privileged enough to be able to take vacations and retreats, and enjoy the comforts of seeing the world; but we know many are not. This is why I wanted to create a retreat that was centered around service and giving back, while at the same time, seeing the world and opening our eyes to the culture all around us. Our retreat takes us to our very own backyard - Arizona!

There are so many hidden gems in the States alone that are worthy of exploration. Arizona is one of them, with her truly deep energy centers and vast rock formations.

What to Look Forward To:

What to Expect:

The main focus of this trip is providing service work to the Navajo Nation community, in whatever fashion they need it. The logistics and details of that work will be disclosed a few weeks prior to the beginning of this trip, so that the needs of the community can be addressed closer to our visit and in real-time. Expect to offer assistance in the form of physical labor for at least 3 of the 8 days of your stay. Hours of work depend on the need of the community, but they will take up the majority of the working day, with a break for lunch. Physical limitations will absolutely be honored to the extent that you can perform a certain task; but your attendance to the service work is vital, so that we can all come together for the common good at hand. Please refrain from skipping any service work days, or making your way back to the lodge before the end of work. This will ensure that we’re committed to helping where we can, and that we stay together as a group.

It's my true belief that being of service alongside the Navajo Nation will not only open our eyes to the compassionate giving we can give to those around us; but help immerse ourselves into the cultures that are sometimes left long forgotten.

We'll come together in community, partnering with the Navajo Nation, for:

  • Daily service work with the community, in whatever fashion they need it (building, cleaning, helping in the gardens or schools)

  • Morning meditations

  • Daily yoga practices, locally or on hikes

  • A day trip to the Grand Canyon

  • Navajo Nation cultural exploration and education (museum, Navajo language, Kinaaldaa ceremony, basket weaving, etc.)

  • Coal Mine Canyon

  • Hikes into the beautiful surrounding mountain-scapes

  • Traditional Sweat Lodge Experience

  • Evening reflections and discussions

The Nitty Gritty:

A more finalized itinerary, complete with start times and locations, will be provided during the Opening Circle of the Retreat, on the first day. Round-trip transport is included as part of your reservation; however, your airfare to and from Phoenix is not. All meals and drinks (primarily vegetarian) are included, as are your simple and humble accommodations. We'll be staying at the local Greyhills Academy Inn, which has been transformed into a hotel from an old, iconic high school academy. Rooms are 2-person double occupancy. You are welcome to room with a friend (simply let me know when you book), or enjoy being paired with someone new, and make a friend! There are single rooms available at a supplemental cost. A simple packing list will be emailed out prior to your departure!
